POP-UP BOOK | The memory of Lanyu
The illustration series of Lanyu was created in 2016 while Weng was traveling in Lanyu. The series depicts undersea life, goatherds, and fishing boat with flying fish, respectively. Inspired by pop-up book artist Colette Fu on a workshop, Weng reproduced her works using paper engineering skills. The greatest challenge was portraying the lively movements of the flying fish and fishing boat. In the original painting, only one side of the fishing boat is seen. In the pop-up version, the entire boat is revealed. Special techniques were applied to create a sense of motion, such that when the page is turned, lifelike Nrig fish emerge from under clouds as if jumping above the water on a dark night.
